STAR OF BELOW DECK MEDITERRANEAN
CAPTAIN Sandy Yawn is known for navigating the high seas — and her crew — with a firm hand on Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean. Star chatted with the TV personality about the fourth season of the hit reality series.
What challenges did you encounter this season?
This season it’s all about teamwork. I think viewers will enjoy watching relationships transform. João might have some challenging moments with his deck crew, and chef Mila may have overstated a few things.
How do the new crew members fit in?
All crew take time to find their place on board. When one is tossed into a full-on charter season, they can find it hard to fit in. I encourage them to stay the course. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t.
How did 30 years of yachting experience prepare you for TV?
I wasn’t prepared, and it wasn’t easy for me at all. I came from the charter world, where I worked very hard to build my reputation. The maritime industry was very apprehensive of the show, so I knew I was taking a risk and could lose the one thing that took years to build. Now that I’ve been on a few seasons, I feel the support from my colleagues. They always send me messages letting me know I’m doing a great job.
