AT Trooping the Colour — the annual celebration of Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday — on June 8, all eyes were to be on Her Majesty. But given that the event was Duchess Meghan’s first public appearance since giving birth to son Archie on May 6, onlookers took in every detail of the Duchess of Sussex — right down to the redesigned engagement ring on her finger. “By the end of her pregnancy with Archie, her hands were too swollen for it to even fit,” an insider tells Star. “That’s when she decided to get it reset.”
The stunning sparkler, designed by her husband, Prince Harry, originally featured a thick yellow-gold band that beautifully offset a row of three diamonds, including two from his mother Princess Diana’s collection.
Now, however, it’s been reset with a much thinner diamond-studded micro-pavé band — and the duke, 34, was shocked that Meghan, 37, insisted on the switch. “There’s no denying that Harry was offended when Meghan first told him she was planning to ‘update’the ring,” says a source. “He put so much thought and effort into the design and didn’t understand why she’d want to change it.” Making matters worse, the makeover is dredging up memories from Meghan’s past that Harry would rather forget. The new band is “almost identical” to the ring Meghan’s ex-husband, Trevor Engelson, gave her. “It’s not sitting well with Harry, especially since he only found out about the similarities afterward,” scoffs the insider. “He feels humiliated and can’t get his head around why she’d want any reminders of Trevor. Harry’s trying to bite his tongue, but who knows how much longer he’ll be able to keep it up!”
