Serena Williams roared with excitement — and, most likely, relief — after beating her teenage opponent, Caty McNally, during the second round of the U.S. Open. The 17-year-old athlete gave the tennis star, 37, a run for her money in the first set, but Serena eventually prevailed before advancing with a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win. While the 23-time Grand Slam champion was able to take back control of the game, at the end of the day, she was grateful for the challenge — because it makes her a better athlete. “It’s great because I want to be able to win matches where I’m not playing my best and come through,” Serena later told reporters. “I need to be tested.”
