Jessica Simpson is a hot mama once again, just months after giving birth.
TALK ABOUT A TRANSFORMATION! AFTER BLOWING UP TO 240 POUNDS DURING HER LAST PREGNANCY, THE STAR ADOPTED A HARD-CORE DIET AND EXERCISE ROUTINE.
Jessica Simpson was in a panic. While pregnant with her third child, Birdie, who was born on March 19, the singer and fashion designer had let herself go. “Watching what she ate just wasn’t a priority,” says an insider. When she finally stepped on a scale toward the end of her pregnancy, reality hit — hard. She’d packed on 100 pounds. “Jessica freaked out,” says the source. “There were tears and tantrums over how she’d ever lose all the weight.”
Six months later, she’s singing quite a different tune. In an emotional Instagram post on Sept. 24, Jessica, 39, revealed she’d gotten her body back in just six months: “100 pounds down,” she wrote, adding that at her heaviest, she’d “tipped the scales at 240.” In the accompanying photos, the mom of three looked sexy and slim in a black dress and heels, her newly shrunken waist cinched with a leather belt. “So proud to feel like myself again,” read the caption. “Even when it felt impossible, I chose to work harder.”
PLAN OF ATTACK
Her first order of business was to change her diet. During her pregnancy, Jessica indulged without limits. “She knew she was going to get bigger so she made the most of it,” says the insider. “On top of three large meals a day, she’d snack on sugary treats and junk food.” During an October 2018 interview, the star herself admitted to some serious cravings. “I just want Pop-Tarts and cinnamon rolls and gummy bears and sour cherries,” she said. After giving birth, sweets were out, and protein and veggies were in. “She immediately started eating healthfully,” says the insider. “She now avoids sugar at all costs or uses a substitute.”
It took a little longer to get her fitness routine going. “Having a C-section set her back, which was frustrating,” says the insider. She started off with some daily walks. Before getting pregnant, Jessica said, she often walked three miles a day with her husband of five years, Eric Johnson, and their kids, Maxi, 7, and Ace, 6. Once she was ready to hit the gym, she teamed up with celeb trainer Harley Pasternak. “With three kids to look after, she barely has a moment to herself, so having some ‘me time’ at the gym is something she looks forward to,” explains the source. “She says it helps keep her sane.”
Now she’s feeling more confident than ever. “She hated being fat-shamed during her pregnancy,” says the insider about the fashion mogul, who’s set to release a tell-all memoir in February. It’s not the first time her figure has been under the microscope — she was famously ridiculed after wearing unflattering mom jeans in 2009. But now she’s having the last laugh. “Jessica’s thrilled with the way she looks and with all the positive comments she’s getting,” says the source. “She worked harder than ever,” adds the insider, “and it paid off.”
