She was an indie movie darling, starring in such 1990s favorites as Single White Female and the grunge classic, Singles. But in 2002 Bridget Fonda — a Hollywood royal as the granddaughter of movie legend Henry Fonda, the daughter of Peter Fonda and a niece of Jane Fonda — retired from acting. “She’s been enjoying a quiet life in Malibu,” an insider tells Star, bringing up her son Oliver with her husband, Danny Elfman. So it came as a shock when the 58-year-old was snapped Jan. 27 looking very unlike her movie-star self. But it shouldn’t be a surprise. “When Bridget retired 20 years ago, she was glad to be free of the impossible standards set by Hollywood in terms of how thin and beautiful she was expected to be,” says the insider. “She’s never looked back.” ★
