CALL HER QUEEN CAMILLA

-

Sending a message! As Queen Elizabeth II marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne, the 95-year-old made a special mention of her daughter-inlaw Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. When her son Prince Charles becomes king, the monarch said in a Feb. 5 letter, “It is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”

It’s quite the step up for the divorcée, who became Charles’ second wife in 2005 after years as his mistress. At the time, the Queen, who did not attend the wedding, announced that Camilla would eventually reign as the more lowly Princess Consort. In the years since, the 74-yearold, dubbed the “most-hated” woman by the U.K. press has worked to repair her image. (She’s now the 10th most popular royal, four ahead of disgraced Prince Andrew.)

The significance was not lost on Charles, 73, who said he and his wife were “deeply conscious of the honor.” ★
