THE LOST CITY

In her best-selling adventure novels, reclusive author Loretta Sage (Bullock) writes about exotic locales, but she can usually be found at home in her bathtub drinking chardonnay with ice. Forced to leave her comfort zone to go on a promotional tour with her cover model, Alan (Tatum), Loretta gets kidnapped by eccentric billionaire Fairfax (a dastardly Radcliffe) who hopes she can lead him to an ancient city’s lost treasure from her latest novel. Alan sets off to rescue her, determined to prove he can be a hero in real life and not just on the pages of her books. The ensuing exploits are filled with explosive action, razor-sharp banter and hilarious hijinks. (Loretta must remove a leech from Alan’s — ahem! — peach.) There’s also a scene-stealing turn from Pitt, who plays an actual adventurer whose swaggering presence provokes jealousy in an insecure Alan. Bullock and Tatum are a sparklingly charming dream team in a delightful action romcom that recalls Romancing the Stone.
