In her new memoir, Finding Me, the Oscar winner describes a childhood of harrowing poverty in Central Falls, R.I. Her family of eight lived in a dilapidate­d home, often without electricit­y or hot water. With no laundry facilities and no money, the place had a “horrific smell,” the 56-year-old writes. “The rats were so bad, they ate the faces off my dolls.”
