Nearly two weeks after country music legend Naomi Judd took her own life, her daughter Ashley Judd opened up about the 76-year-old’s last moments. “I’ve thought about this because once I say it, it cannot be unsaid,” the 54-year-old told Good Morning America May 12, revealing that her mother used a

“firearm.” The Divergent actress also shared that she was at her mom’s Leiper’s Fork, Tenn., home, along with her stepdad, Larry Strickland, when the suicide took place. “It was a mixed day,” Ashley told the morning show. For years, Naomi had struggled with depression, as well as the terrible side effects of her medication.

(“My face is swollen. I don’t have any hair. My right hand shakes real bad from lithium,” the Grammy winner said in 2016.) When she asked Ashley to stay, noted the actress, “I said, ‘Of course I will.’” Moments later, she stepped outside to greet a visitor. “I went upstairs to let her know that the friend was there,” she said through tears, “and I discovered her.” ★
