First-Class Passenger: The “Unsinkable” Molly Brown

-

Before she boarded the Titanic, Denver socialite/activist Margaret Tobin Brown and her daughter, Helen, visited Cairo, Egypt, where she purchased crates of Egyptian antiquities intended for the Denver Art Museum. The only piece that survived along with her was an ushabti - a small, turquoise colored Egyptian talisman resembling a tiny mummy - that Margaret carried with her for good luck.

?? ?? An example of an ushabti, similar to the one Margaret Brown had when she survived the sinking of the Titanic. Seti I; Thebes, Egypt; New Kingdom; recovered cir. 1895-1905.
