FASHION FAUX PAS
THE RAPPER TURNED DESIGNER SET OFF CONTROVERSY — AND BROUGHT UP AN OLD GRUDGE — AT PARIS FASHION WEEK.
ONCE again, Kanye West (a.k.a. Ye) has caused outrage in the fashion world. At his surprise YZY fashion show in Paris, Oct. 3, the rapper turned designer sent models wearing “White Lives Matter” T-shirts down the catwalk. Reaction to the message — considered hate speech by the AntiDefamation League — was immediate. Jaden Smith walked out of the venue, later tweeting “I Don’t Care Who’s It Is if I Don’t Feel The Message I’m Out,” adding, “Black Lives Matter.” (Kanye’s former sister-in-law Kendall Jenner “liked” the post.)
Things got messier after the show when a Vogue writer called the message tees “indefensible” and “deeply offensive, violent and dangerous.” Kanye lashed out, bullying the style maven online. Soon Gigi Hadid came to the writer’s defense. “You wish u had a percentage of her intellect,” fumed the model. After
Hailey Bieber voiced her support, Kanye sent a threat to her husband,
Justin Bieber. At the end of a long rant about his “paradigm-shifting T-shirt,” the rapper wrote, “Justin get your girl before I get mad.”
Ye, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, even brought his kids with ex Kim
Kardashian up during one of his online tirades, again accusing the family of keeping him from his kids and excluding him from son Psalm’s 4th birthday. Chiding him for trying to “deflect” from the tee controversy, Khloé Kardashian went public. “YOU wanted separate birthdays,” she posted. “I have seen all of the texts to prove it.” To which he replied. “You are lying and are liars.” To be continued, of course! ★
