IT’S Avril & Tyga: ON!
AFTER STARTING OFF AS MUSIC-BUSINESS FRIENDS, AVRIL LAVIGNE AND TYGA TAKE THINGS TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
WELL, it is the city of romance! On March 6, newly single Avril Lavigne was snapped planting a wet one on rapper Tyga outside the Mugler x Hunter Schafer party at Paris Fashion Week. Previously, the pair were spotted arriving together at Leonardo DiCaprio’s party at Paris’ Kuku restaurant. “There’s no denying there’s a growing attraction between them,” an insider tells Star. “They like each other’s music and style and find they have a lot to talk about.”
The pair met through mutual friends in the music biz several months ago and started off as friends, says the insider. Things heated up after the Canadian songstress, 38, broke up with fiancé Mod Sun last month, less than a year after they got engaged. “When Avril split from Mod, she made her move on Tyga,” continues the insider. “She knows what she wants and what she’s doing.”
In other words, don’t call this a rebound. “It may look like that, but Avril’s made it clear to friends that she and Mod were headed in different directions for a while,” adds the insider. “She’s ready to cut loose.” For his part, Tyga, 33, who counts Kylie Jenner among his exes, is “flattered Avril is interested in him.”
As for Mod, the 36-year-old (a.k.a. Derek Ryan Smith) was reportedly blindsided by the broken engagement and is now working out his feelings on tour. “He’s still nursing a broken heart over the way Avril dumped him,” says the source. “He’s upset over this new romance but is getting a lot of support from his bandmates and fans.”
As the new couple continue their PDA campaign, the insider says they’re keeping things “casual and fun.” For now: “It’s not serious — but it could be.” H
