Prince George Is 10!

How the future king’s parents Prince William and Kate Middleton made him feel extra special on his birthday.

HE’S a tween! On July 22, Prince George, eldest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales and second in line to the throne, turned 10 years old. To mark the occasion, William and Kate released a new portrait taken by photographer Millie Pilkington at Windsor Castle. The birthday boy looked all grown up in a button-down shirt and long pants, his hair neatly combed to the side. While Kate has frequently been the family snapper for her kids’ traditional birthday pics, she’s recently ceded duties to the pro. Pilkington was also responsible for the b-day portraits of George’s siblings, Princess Charlotte, 8, and 5-yearold Prince Louis.

Now that he’s getting older, George — who was a page at his grandfather King Charles III’s May coronation — will be stepping up his royal duties. “That means attending more events and learning about protocol and traditions,” an insider tells Star. “He’s very humble and keen to learn and take on more responsibility.”

From the time he was very small, the prince’s parents have endeavored both to provide a normal upbringing for the future king and make sure he’s well aware of his place in history. But on his milestone birthday, it was all about family. “There was cake, of course,” says the insider. “They made it a birthday to remember.”
