SHS players, East Webster’s Wilson make All-Star rosters
Players from area schools make All-Star rosters
It was a day for the high school football All-Stars to come out.
The rosters for the Mississippi-Alabama All-Star Classic and the Bernard Blackwell North-South Game were announced on Wednesday and Starkville High School had six players represented on those lists.
Linebacker Willie Gay Jr., offensive lineman Conner Reinike and offensive lineman Jakoby Jones of the Yellowjackets made the Mississippi-Alabama roster, while defensive lineman Nelson Jordan, quarterback-safety Jaquez Akins and offensive lineman Joey Claybrook made the North team of the Bernard Blackwell Game.
“They’re all well-deserving and I’m proud of each and every one of them,” SHS head coach Ricky Woods said. “I know that they’re happy and I’m real pleased that they got in. They’ll do well and they’re good kids so it will be an enjoyable experience for them.”
Also from the area, East Webster linebacker and long snapper Luke Wilson made the Bernard Blackwell North roster.
Coach Doug Wilson of the Wolverines is not only proud of Luke as his coach, but also as a father.
“He’s done a good job and he’s been playing for two or three years now,” Doug Wilson said. “He means a lot. He’s been our long snapper up until this year. I nominated him as a long snapper-linebacker type and I was a little surprised. I didn’t realize he would get it, but we’re very proud for him to play on the team.”
