State impressed with Auburn personnel

-

On Monday, Mullen bragged on Auburn quarterback Sean White as well as Auburn’s defense. He reiterated his sentiments on Wednesday.

Now a sophomore, White made his first career start in last year’s meeting between MSU and Auburn. Since then, Mullen said it’s apparent White has developed.

“I think he’s a guy that understands the offense and you see why they like him as a quarterback,” Mullen said of White. “He makes good reads, takes care of the football and throws the ball very, very well. For them, he adds the component of the drop-back pass that they haven’t had a lot in the past.

“You see the improvement, not just within their offense making reads and being a physical runner when he runs it and the ability to beat you down the field with play-action, but his ability in the drop-back pass has really improved.”

Defensively, Mullen continues to sing the praises of Auburn’s linemen. MSU’s leader believes that is the centerpiece of Auburn’s defensive attack and that front makes everyone else on the team better.

“They have such a great front that sometimes their linebackers get overlooked,” Mullen said. “The front certainly helps the linebackers an awful lot. You have a time dealing with all the great (defensive) linemen they have on their roster that the rest of those guys are able to be freed up to make plays on the field. I think (other defensive players) get overlooked sometimes with the attention that everybody else gets.”
