CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians earned their 17th straight win Saturday, topping the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 behind a pair of timely swings for Jay Bruce and Francisco Lindor.

Bruce's fourth-inning single put the Indians ahead to stay as Cleveland became just the second team in the expansion era — since 1961 — to win 17 straight in a season.

The crowd of 30,459 stood throughout the ninth inning as Cody Allen retired the heart of Baltimore's order for his 25th save.

Cleveland's franchise-record streak is the longest in the majors since Oakland won 20 straight in 2002.

Lindor added his 28th homer in the seventh for the Indians, who haven't lost since Aug. 23. Josh Tomlin (9-9) pitched five-plus innings for the win.

Red Sox 9, Rays 0

BOSTON — Chris Sale struck out eight over six innings and Dustin Pedroia hit a tworun homer in the first to get Boston's offense off to a fast start, carrying the Red Sox to a victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.

It was the fourth consecutiv­e win for the AL East-leading Red Sox, who remained 4 1/2 games ahead of the second-place Yankees.

Andrew Benintendi had three hits and three RBIs and former Mississipp­i State player Mitch Moreland drove in three for Boston.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Aroldis Chapman earned his first save since being removed as closer, finishing a one-hitter for the Yankees.

Tyler Austin hit a go-ahead single in the ninth inning for wild card-leading New York.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Eric Hosmer drove in the go-ahead run with his third hit in a three-run eighth inning, helping the Kansas City Royals beat the Minnesota Twins.

Brewers 15, Cubs 2

CHICAGO — Hernan Perez homered and drove in five runs, powering the Brewers to the runaway win.

Cardinals 4, Pirates 3

ST. LOUIS — Yadier Molina and Matt Carpenter homered, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates to gain ground in the NL Central.

NEW YORK — Rafael Montero overcame five walks to win his third straight start, Kevin Plawecki hit a two-run homer and the New York Mets beat the Cincinnati Reds.

OAKLAND, Calif. — Houston's bullpen forced in five runs with bases-loaded walks and the team tied a franchise record with 13 free passes in the opener of a doublehead­er.

Blue Jays 5, Tigers 4

TORONTO — Kevin Pillar had four hits for Toronto, including a tiebreakin­g home run, and Brett Anderson pitched six innings for his first victory with the Blue Jays.

Pillar broke a 2-all tie with a leadoff drive against Warwick Saupold (3-2) in the sixth, helping Toronto snap a three-game losing streak against Detroit.

White Sox 13, Giants 1

CHICAGO — Jose Abreu became the first White Sox player to hit for the cycle in 17 years, among six Chicago players to go deep in a rout of the San Francisco Giants.
