The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announcements should be submitted via e-mail to life@ starkvilledailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publication and be no more than 50 words in length. Religious events will be listed Saturdays on the Faith page. Recurring events will run on Sundays only. One-time events will run Monday through Friday.

◆ Respite Care — Emerson family center will host free childcare for families for ages 8 weeks to 5 years while parents attend Doctor’s Appointments, Adult Education Classes, Grocery Shopping, Job Interviews etc. Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to noon
◆ Adult Education Classes — Ages 16 and Older, Earn your High School Equivalency, Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m. - noon at the J.L. King Center. Tempe O’ Nan will be the Instructor at JL King and Laura Thurmond and Jean Ann Foxworth will be the Instructor for Emerson
◆ Work Keys Info Session and Practice — Ages 16 and Older, Key to Finding Gainful Employment on MondayThursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Emerson Family School
◆ Afterschool Clubs — Art, Fitness, Life Skills, Homework Help, Literacy clubs will meet Monday- Thursday from 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the J.L. King Center
◆ Tutoring — Emerson Family School will host tutoring for students MondayThursday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mississippi State Students will be the facilitators.
◆ EMCC Launch Pad — EMMC Launch Pad offers free classes in Adult Education, Workkeys Prep, ACT Prep, Employability Skills Training, and Basic Skills Training. We offer free test vouchers and other incentives for qualifying students. Classes are offered Monday- Thursday in morning, afternoon, or evening. PLEASE CALL 662-243-1985 for more information.
◆ Oktibbeha County Federation of Democratic Women — The Oktibbeha Federation of Democratic Women (OCFDW) will hold its monthly meeting on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Oktibbeha County Courthouse 2nd. floor courtroom. Guest Speaker will be Frannie James from Alabama who will speak on Starting at the Grassroots. Members are urged to attend and to bring guest. ◆ Casserole Kitchen — The First Presbyterian Church a casserole kitchen every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m.
◆ Emerson and J.L. King Events — Emerson Family School and the J.L. King Center is hosting events Monday through Thursday. These events include Adult Education Classes, Work Keys Info Session and Practice, Afterschool Clubs, Tutoring and Computer Classes. Details are listed under “Monday”
◆ Toastmasters — Toastmasters meets every Tuesday from 6-7:00 pm in the Conference Room on the first floor of the Sportsplex. Toastmasters is a club that helps members improve their public speaking and leadership skills in a positive atmosphere. Come join us.
◆ CWJC Training — Christian Women’s Job Corps, Golden Triangle is offering job and life skills training in classes Jan. 23 through April. This free faith-based program provides instruction in basic computer skills, communications, resume’ writing, interview preparation, money management, Bible study and much more. ◆Emerson School Childbirth Classes— Emerson School will host free childbirth classes 5:3-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 20 (Relaxation Techniques Labor & Delivery with Havilah Couvillion, RN, MSN), 27 (Infant and Child Care with Katie Buys, DNP, FNP, MHP) and March 6 (Nutrition for Mother and Baby with Jacqueline Hodges, MS, RDN, LD). Snacks and childcare will be provided.
◆ Starkville Newcomers and Friends — Starkville Newcomers’ & Friends will meet in the Mississippi Room of the Cadence Bank on Main Street at 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 20. The program will be led by Thomas Legiandenyi of the MSU Extension Service. His topic will be about the upcoming Garden Expo. Anyone in the Starkville area is welcome to attend. Enter the building through the back parking lot doors.
◆Starkville Kiwanis— Starkville Kiwanis Club will meet Feb. 20 at noon at The Hilton Garden Inn. The speaker will be John Baeman, Exc. Dir. SAAC, who will give an update on Starkville Area Arts Council. Guest are welcome.
