The Around Town calendar is a free service offered by the Starkville Daily News. The calendars runs daily as space allows. Announceme­nts should be submitted via e-mail to life@starkville­dailynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to publicatio­n and be no more than 50 words in length. ◆ Respite Care — Emerson family center will host free childcare for families for ages 8 weeks to 5 years while parents attend Doctor's Appointmen­ts, Adult Education Classes, Grocery Shopping, Job Interviews etc. Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to noon

◆ EMCC Launch Pad — EMMC Launch Pad offers free classes in Adult Education, Workkeys Prep, ACT Prep, Employabil­ity Skills Training, and Basic Skills Training. ◆ CWJC Training — Christian Women's Job Corps, Golden Triangle is offering job and life skills training in classes Jan. 23 through April. This free faith-based program provides instructio­n in basic computer skills, communicat­ions, resume' writing, interview preparatio­n, money management, Bible study and much more. ◆Emerson School Childbirth Classes— Emerson School will host free childbirth classes 5:3-7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 (Nutrition for Mother and Baby with Jacqueline Hodges, MS, RDN, LD) and March 6 (Infant and Child Care with Katie Buys, DNP, FNP, MHP). Snacks and childcare will be provided.

◆Starkville Kiwanis— Starkville Kiwanis Club will meet Feb. 27 at noon at The Hilton Garden Inn. The speaker will be Mike McGill, co-owner of Parker-McGill Auto. Guests are welcome.

OCTS/HHS Scholarshi­p Applicatio­ns — The Oktibbeha County Training School/Henderson High School Scholarshi­p applicatio­ns are due. It is open to high school seniors in the SOCSD planning to further their education beyond high school. ◆NARFE Meeting— The National Active & Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will meet Feb. 22 at the Hilton Garden Inn on Hwy. 12 east.. Doors open at 11 a.m. and lunch is served at 11:30 a.m.. The guest speaker will be Dr. Susan Seal, executive director of MSU's Center for Distance Education. All retired and active Federal employees are encouraged to attend.

◆Sess◆ms Community Center Associatio­n— The Sessums Community Cemetery Associatio­n will hold its quarterly meeting on Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Austin Church of Christ Holiness USA located on Turkey Creek Rd. in the Sessums Community. ◆ Book Mart & Cafe book signing — Mississipp­i State University graduate Joe Lee will sign copies of his new Oakdale series suspense novel, 40 Days, at The Book Mart and Café on March 8 at 3 p.m. First-edition, signed copies are $24.95 plus tax.

◆ On the Grill at Parker-McGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” every Saturday. Free food will be provided and visitors can meet the Parker-McGill staff
