State's junior center honored once again

- By DANNY P. SMITH sports@starkvilledailynews.com

Mississippi State junior center Teaira McCowan earned a school record fourth Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honor on Monday.

As far as MSU women's basketball head coach Vic Schaefer is concerned, McCowan could have gotten it every week.

Schaefer says McCowan's “toughness” has helped her develop into one of the best centers in the SEC and the nation.

“She constantly brings it every night,” Schaefer said. “When the lights come on, she's been so tough. She battles and competes every possession. For every rebound, she is in the middle of it. You are happy to know that hard work and commitment is paying off for that award. No one is more deserving in my mind.”

McCowan averaged 18 points, 19 rebounds and three blocks for the secondranked Bulldogs in wins over Auburn and Kentucky last week.
