stay in the hunt for the SEC reg­u­lar sea­son ti­tle on Tues­day and they did just that. Ten­nes­see hit 15 of its 22 shots in the sec­ond half for a blis­ter­ing 68.2 per­cent and fin­ished 56.3 per­cent for the team.

It was a mat­ter of the Vols play­ing with a pur­pose, a cham­pi­onship in mind and did very well.

The Bull­dogs had some­thing on the line as well, but did not play as well. They only shot 39.2 per­cent from the field (20-of-51). That num­ber was not go­ing to beat Ten­nes­see on Tues­day night.

The door may have closed a bit on the chances MSU has to make the NCAA Tour­na­ment, but it's not closed all of the way ei­ther.

There will be still time for the Bull­dogs

to re­spond to see if that crack can open a lit­tle wider be­fore the com­mit­tee makes its se­lec­tions in a cou­ple of weeks.
