Dr. Mike Howe

Dr. Charles Michael Howe, 76, of South Pitts­burg, TN died Satur­day, April 14, 2018 in a Chat­tanooga hos­pi­tal.

Mike was Pres­i­dent of his grad­u­at­ing class at Mar­ion Mil­i­tary Academy and went on to study at Birm­ing­ham South­ern Univer­sity and the Univer­sity of Ten­nessee at Knoxville. He did his med­i­cal in­tern­ship at Car­away Methodist Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Birm­ing­ham, Alabama, served his res­i­dency in OBGYN at the Univer­sity of Ten­nessee College of Medicine in Mem­phis, grad­u­at­ing with his med­i­cal de­gree on June 12, 1966. He op­er­ated a suc­cess­ful OBGYN prac­tice in Starkville, Mis­sis­sippi for many years, was a mem­ber of the AMA, and had re­ceived a Dis­tin­guished Physi­cian in Ob­stet­rics and Gyne­col­ogy award. In 1990, Mike and his wife, Patty moved their fam­ily to South Pitts­burg, Ten­nessee, where he was an ac­tive vol­un­teer in the community’s Na­tional Corn­bread Fes­ti­val. He was also a mem­ber of Holly Av­enue United Methodist Church. Mike loved his church and reg­u­larly taught Sun­day School and sang in the church choir.

He was pre­ceded in death by his par­ents, Dr. & Mrs. C.D. Howe, brother, Dr. Robert Howe, in May 2017, and his beloved daugh­ter, Dana Lynn Howe, in May 2015.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 52 years, Patty Alexan­der Howe, of South Pitts­burg, Ten­nessee; nieces and neph­ews, Carol In­gram of Birm­ing­ham, Alabama, El­iz­a­beth Clark, of Huntsville, Alabama, Tommy Howe, of Char­lotte, North Carolina, Mar­garet Up­ton, of Auburn, Alabama, Charlie Howe, of Birm­ing­ham, Alabama, David Gibbs, of Jack­son, Mis­sis­sippi, and Joy Phillips, of Jack­son, Ten­nessee; sis­terin-law and brother-in-law, Kay & Joe Gibbs, of Brownsville, Ten­nessee; and a host of friends.

The fam­ily will gather with friends at the South Pitts­burg Chapel of Rogers Fu­neral Home on Tues­day, April 17, 2018, for visi­ta­tion be­gin­ning at 1:00 p.m., fol­lowed by a memorial ser­vice, of­fi­ci­ated by Rev. Lo­gan Jack­son, at 3:00 p.m. Cen­tral time.
