Reg­is­tra­tion open for SPD firearms safety class

The Starkville Po­lice Depart­ment will host a free firearms safety class on Satur­day, June 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The depart­ment looks to of­fer training that pro­motes re­spon­si­ble firearm own­er­ship.

Topics will in­clude: re­spon­si­bil­i­ties of gun own­er­ship, firearms safety in both home and ve­hi­cle, firearms with chil­dren in the home, and laws per­tain­ing to gun own­er­ship.

At­ten­dees will be able to bring their own hand­gun, have it in­spected, and fire it at the Starkville Po­lice Depart­ment range dur­ing this training.

This course is open to any­one over the age of 21.

At­ten­dees will be re­quired to pass a back­ground check and must not be ex­empt from pos­sess­ing a firearm.
