East Webster wins in baseball
MABEN – The East Webster Wolverines scored four times in the first two innings and held on for a Class 2A, Region 2 victory over Bruce at home on Tuesday.
After Bruce started out strong with a pair of runs in the first inning, East Webster answered with one run in the first and three more in the second to take a 4-2 lead.
The Wolverines added one run in the fifth to go up 5-2 and the visiting Trojans got their final two tallies in the fifth to cut the margin to 5-4.
East Webster got its final two runs in the sixth inning to finish off the win.
It was a good night at the plate for the Wolverines with 14 hits. J.T. Slay had three of them, all singles.
Art Thompson and Sloan Hillhouse had a double and single each for East Webster.
The Wolverines used three pitchers in the game as Gray McCarter started and was the winner. Thompson and Walker Johnson followed McCarter to the mound.
With one regular season game remainder at Oak Hill Thursday, East Webster stands at 8-1 in the division and will be a No. 1 seed for the Class 2A playoffs. College Baseball MSU Results (19-18, 5-10)
