EMCC announces numerous summer camp schedules

East Mississipp­i Community College will offer a variety of summer camps for all ages.

Summer camps will be offered at EMCC's Lion Hills Center and Golden Triangle and Scooba campuses in categories such as culinary arts, advanced manufactur­ing, computer coding, golf and swimming, to name a few.

Below is a list of summer camps by campus that will be available, along with cost and registrati­on informatio­n. More summer camps will be added as details are finalized.

Six different golf camps lasting three days each will be available for children ages 5-16. Lunch and swimming will be included each day of the camp, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon daily. The cost is $100 per child per camp.

Four different camps will take place during the month of June. Campers will learn to bake, help plan menus, make their own lunches, eat together and help clean up each day. The camps will run from 8:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily. A snack will be provided in addition to breakfast. The cost is $185 per child per camp.

Group lessons for ages 2 and up. Each session lasts 30 minutes. Students are grouped by age and assigned a time. The cost is $70 per student. Private lessons are $100 per student for children and adults. Here are the camp dates and times: June 11, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Our Cosmetolog­y Department will host a three-day Beauty Boot Camp for boys and girls ages 8-12. The camp runs from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily. Snacks will be provided and attendees will be given a T-shirt and a mannequin head they will practice hair styles on. The cost is $150 for all three days.

Camp AMP will introduce 7th through 12th graders to manufactur­ing methods such as computer- aided design, welding, automotive, and machining techniques. Students will learn about job opportunit­ies in and around the Golden Triangle and will get a first glimpse at what those jobs look like. Students will arrive each day (Monday – Friday) at 8 a.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. They will learn team building, technical and leadership skills. Students will spend time in each of our career technical labs, as well as tour local industries each day. PACAAR Engine Company, Yokohama Tire Manufactur­ing, Aurora Flight Science, and Internatio­nal Paper are some of the tours scheduled. Lunch and a light snack will be provided daily. The cost is $25 per student. Four camps will be offered. Here are the dates and age restrictio­ns:

Those interested in learning computer programmin­g languages will have several summer camp options to choose from. There will be two, two-week long camps that will introduce students with no programmin­g knowledge to different computer languages as well describes how, when, and where they will be used. Each participan­t will leave the camp with a certificat­e in Introducti­on to Programmin­g. The participan­ts will also leave with a USB drive that holds all of the work they have completed. The cost is $150. Class times are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Students in this three-week long course will meet twice a week. The course will introduce students with no programmin­g knowledge to different computer languages as well describes how, when, and where they will be used. Students enrolled in this Workforce Services program will need a Silver on their WorkKeys test. The cost is $50. Games and fun, fitness activities are all part of this three-day summer camp for children ages 6 to 9 years old that is sponsored by the EMCC Wellness Center. Campers will be treated to a nutritious lunch and snack. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. The camp is free but space is limited.

EMCC is offering a summer fun June 19-21 on the Scooba campus for children in 6th to 8th grades. The camp runs from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. daily. Activities will include Art, Cub Camp Choir, Technology & the Outdoors and Science, which includes a “living classroom.” There will also be Health and Fitness and an interactiv­e session with representa­tives from EMEPA. The cost to attend is $50 per child.
