ICC's Spring­field gets honor

FUL­TON – Itawamba Com­mu­nity Col­lege pitcher and in­fielder Bailie Spring­field added another ac­co­lade to cap her out­stand­ing sopho­more sea­son when she earned a spot on the Na­tional Ju­nior Col­lege Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion DII Soft­ball All-Amer­i­can team on Wed­nes­day.

Spring­field was se­lected to the sec­ond team as a pitcher and was one of only four play­ers from Mis­sis­sippi to earn All-Amer­i­can hon­ors.

The South­ern Miss signee earned the Mis­sis­sippi As­so­ci­a­tion of Com­mu­nity and Ju­nior Col­leges Pitcher of the Year award af­ter win­ning a pro­gram-best 20 games and fin­ish­ing the sea­son with a sparkling 1.54 ERA. She struck out 123 bat­ters, had seven shutouts and threw one no-hit­ter in 150.1 in­nings.

Of­fen­sively, the East Web­ster grad­u­ate hit .296 with 21 RBI and 35 runs scored. She had 40 hits with team-highs in dou­bles (11) and triples (three) to go along with a pair of home runs while only strik­ing out five times in 135 at-bats. Spring­field fin­ishes her lone sea­son in Ful­ton with a .342 on-base per­cent­age and .467 slug­ging per­cent­age. De­fen­sively, she had a .974 field­ing per­cent­age with only three er­rors and six dou­ble plays in 177 chances as a pitcher, short­stop and third base­man.

Last week, Spring­field was picked sec­ond team Al­lAmer­i­can by Fast­pitch News. Her other hon­ors in­clude: NJCAA All-Re­gion 23, Na­tional Fast­pitch Coaches As­so­ci­a­tion (NFCA) All-Re­gion South, NFCA Sec­ond-Team All-Amer­i­can and MACJC First Team All-State.
