He Will Quiet You with His Love

-

My favorite place to be is upstairs in my comfortable wingback chair by our bay window. With the blinds open, I can see the wind moving among the leaves of the trees or the rain descending in sheets on the branches, and I feel safe, protected. It has become almost a hallowed spot, for there I do my Bible reading and praying. I also sit there when I just need to be quiet and feel the Lord's presence. “The LORD your God is with you, Zephaniah 3:17 tells me. “He is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you. He will quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing.” When I can feel the quietness, God has quieted me with His love.

Lyn Chaffart says in one of her devotionals, “This verse reminds me of a mother who picks up her little one who is hurt and sings as she rocks him, ‘There, there now, sweetie, it is all right. Everything's going to be all right.' The mother knows that everything is going to be all right in his world because she knows the world he lives in. She knows all the circumstances that can befall him in that world and she is big enough and strong enough to make everything in his little world work for his good. Therefore, she can say, ‘It is going to be all right.'

“That is how God views us. He made the world we live in; he controls the elements of that world. He even made the people in this world and he can control their thoughts and actions; so when He promises to quiet us in His love and sing praises of us, we need fear nothing that comes our way.”

Zephaniah also says God rejoices over us with singing! Imagine hearing God sing. How does He sound? The Women of Faith Study Bible describes His voice as powerful and strong, yet unimaginably beautiful, pure and sweet. Why does God sing over us? Because He delights in us. That sounds almost presumptuous, doesn't it? We are talking about Almighty God who delights in us, who rejoices over us with singing!

“God's love for us is deep and strong,” again quoting Women of Faith Study Bible. “It will never be shaken (Isaiah 54:10). We are secure in Him. Knowing that He delights in us can give us freedom to delight in Him and in all that He has for us.”
