The Around Town cal­en­dar is a free ser­vice of­fered by the Starkville Daily News. The cal­en­dars runs daily as space al­lows. An­nounce­ments should be sub­mit­ted via e-mail to [email protected]­lynews.com by 2 p.m. the day prior to pub­li­ca­tion and be no more than 50 words in length. Re­li­gious events will be listed Satur­days on the Faith page. Re­cur­ring events will run on Sun­days only. One-time events will run Mon­day through Fri­day.

We of­fer free test vouch­ers and other in­cen­tives for qual­i­fy­ing stu­dents. Classes are of­fered Mon­day- Thurs­day in morn­ing, af­ter­noon, or evening. ◆Ac­tive Par­ent­ing Classes— West Main Com­mu­nity As­so­ci­a­tion has worked to get one of the streets in their neigh­bor­hood re­named for one of the res­i­dents who is a World War II vet­eran and was re­cently named as an Honorary Tuskegee Air­man. The street will be re­named to Roo­sevelt Tay­lor Sr. Dr. and the cer­e­mony will be July 19 at 10 a.m. in front of his home at 103 Beattie St.

◆AiPP Re­cep­tion — A re­cep­tion for Starkville Area Arts Coun­cil's lat­est Art in Pub­lic Places show fea­tur­ing Vicki Arm­strong will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. July 12 at the Greater Starkville De­vel­op­ment Part­ner­ship lobby. Arm­strong's works will be on dis­play at the Part­ner­ship through Au­gust.

◆Street Re­nam­ing Cer­e­mony — Break­fast with the Bull­dogs will be­gin at 7:30 a.m. July 12 atS­tarkville Café. ◆ On the Grill at Park­erMcGill — Parker-McGill Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram will host a weekly “On the Grill” ev­ery Satur­day. Free food will be pro­vided and vis­i­tors can meet the Parker-McGill staff.

◆ Nox­ubee Refuge Ca­noe Day — Nox­ubee Na­tional Wildlife Refuge (13723 Bluff Lake Road, Brooksville) is hav­ing a free ca­noe day on Satur­day July 21, start­ing at 9:00 am and ten­ta­tively planned to con­tinue un­til 3:00 pm (pend­ing rain and heat). Ca­noes and kayaks will be avail­able for use on Bluff Lake dur­ing this time. Vis­i­tors can bring their own life vests if they wish, but pad­dles and life vests are pro­vided. If any­one would like to vol­un­teer in get­ting the event set up or taken down, they can con­tact the refuge of­fice at 662-323-5548

◆Starkville Ki­wa­nis Golf Tour­na­ment— The Starkville Ki­wa­nis 4th An­nual Golf Tour­na­ment will be July 28 at the MSU Golf Course. All pro­ceeds ben­e­fit Ex­cel By 5 at the Emer­son School.
