Tennessee man indicted for sexual battery, pleads not guilty

A Tennessee man has been indicted for sexual battery by an Oktibbeha County grand jury, after police say he made illegal sexual contact with a female victim in Starkville's Cotton District last August.

The single count indictment for sexual battery was filed on Jan. 10 in Oktibbeha County Circuit Court against 22-year-old Nicholas Winchester.

Winchester is accused of sexually assaulting the female victim on Colonel Muldrow Avenue on the morning of Aug. 12, 2018.

A felony arrest warrant was issued for Winchester and he was charged less than a week after the allege incident.

Few details are known about the incident apart from accusation­s levied at Winchester, including his relationsh­ip to the victim.

Following his arrest, Winchester was booked into the Oktibbeha County Hail and released after his bond was set at $25,000.

According to Oktibbeha County Circuit Court records, Winchester pleaded not guilty to the charge on Jan. 31 with Circuit Judge Lee Howard presiding over the case and Assistant District Attorney Marc Amos serving as prosector.

A motion date was set for March 22, while a plea date was scheduled for April 15. In the event the case could go to trial, a tentative trial date for Winchester's case was set for April 30.
