From page 1 two investigators were sent to Starkville after the felony warrant was signed Feb. 6.

Investigators located Walters, who was booked into the Oktibbeha County Jail awaiting transport back to Desoto County for his initial court appearance in Horn Lake.

Keene said the victim's family came to the police on Nov. 12, 2018. The first contact that was made between Walters and the victim were electronic communications.

He also said while Walters also faces the single felony charge in Horn Lake, other charges could be possible.

“He will be brought back up here and there's no court schedule yet, but usually a judge will see a person with 48 hours,” Keene said. “He could be seen as soon as tomorrow.”

Walters was expected to be transported to Horn Lake sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Keene said Walters was living in Starkville at the time of his arrest.

Also at the time of his arrest, Walters was employed as the sports editor at the Columbus Dispatch in Lowndes County.

According to the newspaper, he had been employed there as a sports reporter since August 2011, before he was promoted to his sports editor role in early February.

Dispatch Publisher Peter Imes told the Starkville Daily News Wednesday that the newspaper does not comment on personnel matters.
