Horton said after receiving the initial burglary call, there were no suspects. However, the victim and owner of the residence notified investigators that her Apple TV device showed a time after it was stolen where her Netflix account was accessed.
The victim then provided investigators with the IP address of the device and a subpoena to C Spire traced the device to an apartment at College Station.
Horton said a search warrant was served on the residence, which was registered to an single female individual. Once inside, a search uncovered an Apple TV device in the first bedroom searched, which Horton said had the same serial number as the stolen device.
Malone informed investigators that it was his room and that he bought the device from an individual named “Jody,” who he initially claimed he met in a parking lot.
A further search of the residence turned up the two other missing items.
Horton then said Malone and another offthe-books resident of the apartment were taken in for questioning, where Malone was informed that the print from a shoe recovered from his closet matched that of an imprint on the door that was kicked in before the burglary occurred.
No one was at the residence at the time of the burglary.
He continued, saying Malone, after speaking with his mother, admitted to investigators that he and another suspect broke into the residence.
Horton said the investigation continues into a second suspect.
Malone was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail and his bond remains at $5,000.
