On Tuesday, East Mississippi Community College's Golden Triangle campus class of 2019 graduated in two separate ceremonies.

The class consisted of approximately 700 across the entire EMCC system, including the two Golden Triangle commencements Tuesday and a commencement on the Scooba campus on Saturday, May 4. At the Golden Triangle campus, career technical students graduated in a morning ceremony, while those completing academic degrees graduated in the afternoon.

In his address to the graduates, EMCC President Scott Alsobrooks encouraged the new alumni to persevere and to take opportunities that came to them.

“I hope you're proud of what you've accomplished,” Alsobrooks said. “I know that we are. You have laid a foundation upon which to build your futures, on a journey that hasn't always been easy. Many of you overcame difficulties on your journey from freshmen to graduates, but you persevered.”

Alsobrooks focused on goals and opportunities in his address, discussing his own path to his current role.

“Both are key to your view. Goals help keep us focused in the right direction,” Alsobrooks said. “You have reached one milestone today, set your sights on another one. Determine where you want to be next year, five years or even 10 years from now and work to make it happen. For some of you, that may men continuing your education. For others, that may mean entering the workforce.”
