Walk-off victories highlight for Webster County teams

Webster County teams certainly had the flare for the dramatics on Saturday at Mckee Park.

After Hunter Smith delivered a double to end Mathiston's 14-13 win over Corinth in three innings to cap pool play, Eupora edged Louisville 8-7 when Dale Britt had a walk-off single to drive in the deciding run in the fourth inning.

It was a close and competitiv­e game throughout for Eupora and Mathiston to open bracket play. The two teams traded runs in the first inning, then Louisville scored one run in the second and two more in the fourth to go up 4-1.

Eupora got two runs back to cut the margin to 4-3, but Louisville added three runs to its advantage in the top of fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Eupora used a five-spot to complete its rally and Britt's single ended it. Tre Johnson had a two-run single that was key in the frame.

Britt had two singles for Eupora, while Jacob Crimm had a double for the only extra base hit. Briggs Mcilwain, Brooks Powell and Johnson added one single each.

Mathiston 14, Corinth 13

It was an offensive show for both teams as it combined for 18 runs in the second inning alone.

In the bottom of the second, Mathiston had 10 runs on five hits.

Guys Mccarter walked three times and scored three times for Eupora, while Craven had a single and a double.

Corinth 13, Mathiston 12

The two teams followed up a 27-run outing with a 25-run showing against one another in another meeting to begin bracket play.

Garrett White had a double and single for Mathiston.

The loss sets up an all-webster County matchup in the loser's bracket today as Mathiston and Eupora play at 11 a.m.

Eupora 11, Corinth 9

Crimm had a single and a double, while Mcilwain chipped in a pair of singles as Eupora ended pool play on a winning note.
