Senior accounting major named a HEADWAE recipient
Senior accounting major Hallie Cole was recognized at the State Capitol for Higher Education Appreciation Day - Working for Academic Excellence award (HEADWAE).
The Mississippi Legislature established the HEADWAE program to honor the scholastically talented students and exceptional faculty members of Mississippi's public and private institutions of higher learning.
“It's an honor and exciting to be chosen by the university to be a representative,” said Cole.
Cole is an honor student from Winfield, Alabama. She is president of The W's Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Club team. The organization finished first in the previous
TVA Investment Challenge.
Cole was named 2018-2018 Outstanding Business Student of the Year. She is a member of The W Leadership Program, Accounting Club and Phi Beta Lambda.
Cole also volunteers with COLE the Columbus Air Force Base to prepare tax returns for active and retired service personnel.
In her recommendation letter, Dr. Marty Brock, dean of the College of Business and Professional Studies, described Cole as, “an exemplary student that embodies the quality of excellence for which this program was designed.
Dr. Kristi Diclemente,
assistant professor of history, was named The W's faculty HEADWAE recipient.
Both were honored today at the 33rd annual HEADWAE program alongside students and faculty recipients from the other Mississippi public and private universities and colleges at the State Capitol.
Elected officials, along with Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr., commissioner of higher education, and Dr. Andrea Mayfield, executive director of the Mississippi Community College Board, provided remarks. Honorees also enjoyed a tour of the Capitol and were recognized by the Senate and House of Representatives.
The HEADWAE program is chaired by Lt. Gov. Delbert Hosemann.
