Grad transfer to finish career in Starkville

-

College baseball is about to see roster turnover like it never has before with the NCAA giving every player an extra year of eligibility and Mississippi State saw both sides of it over the last week.

First, MSU lost freshman second baseman Mason Land, who was projected to be the future at the position once Justin Foscue was likely taken in the Major League Baseball Draft next month. Land is one of several young players that have already exited the program, most who were looking for more playing time.

On the flip side of that, MSU picked up a commitment from a graduate transfer that will likely fill Foscue’s cleats at the position next season. Fifthyear senior Scott Dubrule of Jacksonville announced on Twitter Monday afternoon his intentions.

“I would like to thank Jacksonville University for a great four years,” Dubrule wrote. “Excited to announce I will be continuing my academic and baseball career at Mississippi State University #Hailstate.”

The Florida native was having a massive senior year before the season came to an end. He led the team in batting average (.426), hist (29), runs (20) and on-base percentage (.500).He had struck out just five times in 68 at-bats and produced five doubles and a home run. In two games against Florida, Dubrule had three hits and a double.

He started his career in 2017 being chosen to the Atlantic Sun Allfreshman

team after starting in 56 of the 59 games and batting .281. As a sophomore, Dubrule started every game at shortstop and was a first-team ALL-ASUN member after winning the batting title with a .350 average and 76 hits.

Last year he made the move to second base and finished with a .307 batting average earning himself secondteam honors by the ASUN. Dubrule factors in prominently to MSU’S plans
