5th Small Animal Trading Day and Farmer’s Market set for Saturday
The Oktibbeha County Co-op is set to have small animals and fresh produce for all Saturday at its fifth Small Animal Trading Day and Farmers Market.
Terri Tomlinson, who organizes the event, said the Co-op began offering the Trading Day as a way to promote agriculture and support local farmers and ranchers and has been very pleased with the results. On a typical Trading Day, she said, there will be dozens of small animals and plenty of produce to sell or swap.
“Usually we’re gonna have chick, guineas, baby goats, pigs, ducks, peacocks, rabbits, just to name a few small animals,” she said. “The patrons are of course allowed to sell or trade between themselves.”
Tomlinson said families with gardens are also invited, which yields a variety of fruits and vegetables, breads, cookies, jams and other homemade goods.
Even with CDC guidelines for social distancing in place, Tom
linson said the event usually draws a good crowd and ends up being a successful day for the vendors who participate.
“People still come up and love to see the animals,” she said. “They love to see what’s new and see what’s available. We’ve been so pleased.”
Saturday’s Trading Day is set for 9 a.m. to noon at the Oktibbeha County Co-op. Vendors should start arriving about 8 a.m. to start setting up. Tomlinson said vendors
aren’t required to stay the whole time and can leave when they sell out or whenever they need to.
Oktibbeha County Co-op would love to include first time vendors as well as returning farmers and ranchers. Vendors can reach Tomlinson at 662-323-1742 to learn more about getting involved.
For the general public, Tomlinson said there is sure to be plenty of produce, homemade goods and small animals for everyone. She said all are invited to come out and help support local agriculture.
