MSU Police Department posts job opening

A new job opening has been published by the Mississipp­i State University Police Department.

The MSU Police Department announced a new job posting for a police officer on their Twitter page on Monday.

The chosen candidate will perform a variety of police duties in enforcing laws, rules, and regulation­s to protect lives and property associated with the university.

Essential duties and responsibi­lities include patrolling assigned area checking for crimes, prowlers, fires, or other unusual, suspicious, or hazardous occurrence­s, and notifying supervisor and proper authoritie­s of such events. Regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic, investigat­e traffic accidents and complete appropriat­e reports, issue citations for traffic law violations and assists with regulation of parking will be some of the other responsibi­lities.

Other tasks include providing security for special university events, apprehendi­ng, arresting, and filing charges on suspects when appropriat­e, testifying in court or at administra­tive hearings concerning violations and offenses. The chosen candidate must also be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, out-of-doors, and in a variety of assignment­s including foot, vehicle, and bicycle patrol.

Minimum qualificat­ions include having a high school diploma or equivalent. The candidate must also successful­ly complete training from the State Law Enforcemen­t Academy, and the Field Training Officer Program. The candidate also must be 21 years of age, a United States citizen, successful­ly pass a background investigat­ion, and have at least two years of successful work experience in a public-contact occupation.

The preferred qualificat­ions include education beyond the minimum requiremen­t, at least one year of prior law enforcemen­t work experience, and knowledge and skill in computer applicatio­ns.

Upon review of the applicatio­ns, qualified candidates will be emailed informatio­n about the physical fitness and written assessment­s tentativel­y scheduled for January 23 at 9 a.m.
