MSU Police Department posts job opening
A new job opening has been published by the Mississippi State University Police Department.
The MSU Police Department announced a new job posting for a police officer on their Twitter page on Monday.
The chosen candidate will perform a variety of police duties in enforcing laws, rules, and regulations to protect lives and property associated with the university.
Essential duties and responsibilities include patrolling assigned area checking for crimes, prowlers, fires, or other unusual, suspicious, or hazardous occurrences, and notifying supervisor and proper authorities of such events. Regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic, investigate traffic accidents and complete appropriate reports, issue citations for traffic law violations and assists with regulation of parking will be some of the other responsibilities.
Other tasks include providing security for special university events, apprehending, arresting, and filing charges on suspects when appropriate, testifying in court or at administrative hearings concerning violations and offenses. The chosen candidate must also be able to work rotating shifts, including nights, out-of-doors, and in a variety of assignments including foot, vehicle, and bicycle patrol.
Minimum qualifications include having a high school diploma or equivalent. The candidate must also successfully complete training from the State Law Enforcement Academy, and the Field Training Officer Program. The candidate also must be 21 years of age, a United States citizen, successfully pass a background investigation, and have at least two years of successful work experience in a public-contact occupation.
The preferred qualifications include education beyond the minimum requirement, at least one year of prior law enforcement work experience, and knowledge and skill in computer applications.
Upon review of the applications, qualified candidates will be emailed information about the physical fitness and written assessments tentatively scheduled for January 23 at 9 a.m.
