MSU Alumni Association creates directory for business owners
The Mississippi State University Alumni Association has partnered with the Greater Starkville Development Partnership to further promote the association’s new online business directory. The new directory is specifically for MSU alumni who own their own businesses and for alumni and friends who are looking to support alumni-owned businesses.
Hunter Harrington is the Director of Membership Development for the Partnership, and she said the more that the Partnership can do to cross-promote with MSU and its alumni and business community the better.
“For those who visit Starkville and for all who are lifelong Bulldog fans and want to shop local, for chamber businesses to be able to utilize the directory is a huge win for our local economy,” Harrington said.
Landon Casey is an MSU alumnus who earned his degree in computer engineering in 2019, and his young company, Casey Interactive is all about bringing other people’s ideas to life.
“We are a prototype-development company. So, what we do is we have people come to us, whether they’re a small business, an inventor or an entrepreneur, they come to us with their idea, we take that idea and
we try to give them something real out of it,” said Casey. “So, we give them prototypes and concepts that they can take them to maybe start a Kickstarter campaign, talk to an investor, do customer testing, beta testing. So, it’s really all about making ideas come to life.”
Casey Interactive is just a single member business at the moment led by Casey. Despite that, he still aims to be passionate about using his engineering and business skills to help small businesses get off the ground.
For Casey, the MSU Alumni Association having the new business directory is a perfect way for him to sort of keep in touch with his former classmates and friends he had made during his time at MSU.
“I see something like this as a huge win for the university. For a lot of people, whenever we graduate, we all go our separate ways in life. I have a friend who went up to Washington to work for Amazon, and other friends just go all over the place,” said Casey. “I think having a directory such as this helps keep us all stay up to date with what everyone is doing now, it keeps the MSU family together almost. As an MSU graduate, I definitely want to support other MSU alumni-owned businesses; so, having something like that is fantastic.”
Searchable by geographic location and by industry category, the directory will give Bulldogs the opportunity to do business with one another and support Bulldog owned businesses.
If you are a business owner who graduated from MSU, go to the MSU Alumni Association website and complete the alumni-owned directory registration form to receive the free sticker for your business.
