Starkville to host statewide tennis tournament
Throughout the weekend, the basketball court at Mckee Park will be closed. It will reopen on Sunday, September 20. From Friday, September 17 through Sunday, September 19, Mckee Park will be one of the four sites around town that is hosting the USTA Mississippi Tournament.
USTA is the United States Tennis Association, and the Mississippi chapter is based out of Jackson. USTA Mississippi serves people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds to help spread the love of tennis in Mississippi.
At the Starkville tournaments, there are three main age groups that will face off: 18 and over, 40 and over, and 55 and over.
The tournament comes only a week after the conclusion of the US Open, so this is sure to be a fun and exciting weekend for tennis fans and players in the state. It will be the tri-level league championship, and play each day of the tournament will start at 8 a.m. The finals will take place on Sunday.
Starkville was chosen to be the host of the tri-level league championship, and it is a great place to host. With Mississippi State football out of town for the weekend, the tournament will take place all over town at four different courts.
Mckee Park is just one, but the basketball courts will be affected because of the tournament. The other three locations are the Starkville High School tennis courts, Starkville Academy tennis courts, and the Sawyer Tennis Courts on the MSU campus close to the vet school and by the intramural fields.
Starkville High School will be the home of three matches at a time with the first match starting at 8 a.m. and the last match of the day on both Friday and Saturday beginning at 5:30 p.m. If you attend the matches at the end of the day at SHS, be wary of homecoming traffic at SHS.
