The W receives top rankings by U.S. News and Washington Monthly

COLUMBUS – Mississipp­i University for Women was named among the best universiti­es in the region for social mobility today by U.S. News & World Report. The 2022 Best Colleges Rankings named The W No. 4 as a Top Public Performers on Social Mobility-regional Universiti­es South and No. 10 among Top Performers on Social Mobility-regional Universiti­es South.

The university moved up to No. 4 as a Best Public School Value among Best Public Value Schools -Regional Universiti­es South. For the third consecutiv­e year, The W ranked No. 18 among Top Public-regional Universiti­es South.

“The best recognitio­n of the great value of a W education is the success of our students and the connection they continue to feel as alumni of the institutio­n. I am proud of these national recognitio­ns and of our performanc­e on social mobility,” said W President Nora Miller.

Social Mobility is an indicator of how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, with most money going to students with total family incomes below $20,000.

U.S. News & World Report now in its 37th year, assessed 1,466 U.S. bachelor’s degree-granting institutio­ns on 17 measures of academic quality. The data allows individual­s to compare at a glance the relative quality of U.S. institutio­ns based on widely-accepted indicators of excellence. The data was gathered by U.S. News through surveying schools in the spring and summer of 2021.
