Jukebox Saturday Night brings America’s Swing Era to The W
COLUMBUS – The Leslie Farrell Threadgill Lecture and Artist Series will bring a music review of the great Big Bands to Rent Auditorium in Whitfield Hall at Mississippi University for Women Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Jukebox Saturday Night will present a fun-filled event for all ages that captures the exciting sounds of great melodies and lyrics performed by an energetic group of instrumentalists and vocalists who will keep you moving in your seats, tapping your toes and clapping your hands.
“The Leslie Farrell Threadgill Lecture and Artist Series is such an asset for The W and the community. We have enjoyed offering a wide variety of performances over the years thanks to this generous endowment established by the Threadgill family. It’s always a fun evening for our students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends,” said Andrea Stevens, W executive director of development and alumni.
Jukebox Saturday Night will perform various styles of music including swing, ballads, chachas, waltzes and tangoes.
The band celebrates America’s Swing Era performing the greatest hits as recorded by Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Jimmy Lunceford, Harry James, Artie Shaw, Cab Calloway, Benny Goodman, Bunny Berigan, Count Basie and more. Vocal selections will include songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day, Bob Eberly, Helen O’connell, Rosemary Clooney and other vocal idols.

is managed by Glenn Miller Productions, Inc. With over 60 years of successfully managing the World-famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, audiences can expect the same quality as the Glenn Miller Orchestra while hearing the biggest and best hits of the Big Band Era.
In keeping with the university’s current health and safety guidelines, face masks are required.
Tickets are limited and free of charge. Tickets must be reserved
and will be held at Will Call in the lobby of Whitfield Hall from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. the evening of the concert.

The Leslie Farrell Threadgill Lecture and Artist Series endowment, held by the MUW Foundation and given by her family, is The W’s largest lectureship endowment. The Leslie Farrell Threadgill Lecture and Artist Series Endowment was established in 1997 by the Threadgill family to honor alumna Leslie Farrell Threadgill. The endowment supports programs to promote family and cultural influences, to advance the artistic and intellectual environment of the university, and to strengthen the cultural bond between the university and the public.
Over the years, the endowment has brought symphony and popular music performances to the campus free of charge for W students, faculty, staff and their families. The late Leslie Threadgill of Columbus and her husband, Bill, have a long history of involvement with The W as major supporters of the university.
