MSU takes care of its veteran students

The G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Center for America's Veterans located on the Mississippi State campus is a proven national leader in providing comprehensive support through a universitybased veteran resource center.

During the Kiwanis Club of Starkville's weekly program on Tuesday, the center's director Brian Locke was guest speaker as he told the Kiwanians about what he and his staff do at the MSU Center for America's Veterans.

In support of the MSU Division of Student Affairs, Locke told the Kiwanians that his center's mission is to engage military-connected students through educational benefits, transitional support, and activities to promote learning, well-being, and success.

As a veteran himself, Locke says the vision is to be a recognized leader in higher education with world-class support for military-connected students through focused programs and services designed especially for their needs.

“Our building has been around since 2016. So if you haven't been on campus in a while, we're right across from the Sanderson Center right down from Humphreys Coliseum. But our organization has actually been on campus for quite a while,” said Locke. “After 9/11 and after so many people served, they started to see that large number eventually go to college, and so you need organizations to kind of work with those veterans and help them through the processes as they transition into higher education.”
