Clarksdale,

MS, on January 25, 2023. Janet was born on April 21st, 1936, in Hollywood, CA, to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Edwin Gregory. Janet is survived by her loving husband and soulmate of 64 years, Richard Bowen Flowers; three children, Bowen Flowers (Susan) of Clarksdale, MS, Mattson Flowers (Leann) of Clarksdale, MS, Campbell Melton (Richard) of Tunica, MS; seven grandchild­ren, Anderson Flowers, Gregory Flowers, Zachary Flowers, Ann Gray Flowers (William Hardy), Joseph Melton (Hannah), Garland Melton, Catherine Melton. One great grandchild, Addison Melton; and two siblings, Beau Gregory (Kathy) of Tunica, MS, and Linda Threadgill (George) of Pensacola, FL.

Janet attended and graduated from Mississipp­i State College in 1958. While attending, she was awarded homecoming queen, Miss

Mississipp­i State, and a MSU Beauty. While there she participat­ed as a cheerleade­r, student body secretary, and vice president of Chi Omega sorority. During her senior year, she lobbied in Jackson, MS, for “University” status on behalf of Mississipp­i State College to be named Mississipp­i State University. After graduating college, Janet became a flight attendant for American Airlines. During the 70's and 80's, Janet enjoyed modeling for different clothing boutiques in Memphis, TN. With her husband, Dick, Janet traveled to 80 countries. They participat­ed in the People to People Ambassador Program as Goodwill Ambassador­s where they traveled the world playing tennis and representi­ng the United States. Janet was passionate about agricultur­e.

She traveled across the United States with the National Cotton Council to promote that cotton was “Grown and Made in the USA”. Janet was a long standing member of the United Methodist Church in Tunica, MS, where she formally taught Sunday School. Janet had the honor of being selected as “Good Middling Lady” for Delta Council. She coached tennis and was a member of the Mothers Club at Tunica Institute of Learning. Janet was an avid tennis, Mahjong, and bridge player. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great-grandmothe­r. She enjoyed spending time at her second home in Naples, FL, where she and Dick fellowship­ped with dear friends in the community. While in Naples they attended the North Naples Church, a part of The United Methodist Church.

Janet will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all that knew her. Visitation will be held on Friday, January the 27th, at the Tunica United Methodist Church at 10:00 am with a Celebratio­n of Life to follow at 11:00 am. There will be a private burial. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Tunica United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice. Meredith-nowell Funeral Home in Clarksdale, MS is in charge of arrangemen­ts.

Funeral Service will be Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Second Baptist Church in Starkville, MS at 11:00 am. Final resting place will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Public visitation will be Friday, January 27, 2023, from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Hairston & Hairston Funeral Home – Starkville.
