Coaches Association has chosen
Gray to be its coach for the South team in the 11th annual All-star Classic taking place on May 17 in Booneville. Gray was chosen along with New Albany coach Cody Stubblefield, who will be coaching the North team.
Gray is coming off an incredible 2022 with the Eagles. It was his second year with the team and he made it one to remember. Led by quarterback Ty Murphy, who was selected All-state and the Starkville Daily News Offensive Co-player of the Year,
Gray helped Eupora to a 11-3 finish and a run to the North State championship in Class 2A.
The Eagles enjoyed 10 or more wins in a season for the first time since 2014 while also winning Class 2A, Region 2 for the first time since 2012. The team finished 4-0 in Region 2 play with triumphs over rivals East Webster and Choctaw County as well as the first win over Calhoun City since 2012.
Gray became Eupora's head coach last season after spending a year coaching the offense under former head coach Stephen Edwards. Gray was previously a highly-successful offensive coordinator for Winona as well.
The NEMFCA All-star game is in its 11th year and has grown every season with new teams. This year, the association brought in North Panola, Senatobia, Noxubee, Kirk Academy and Louisville. The association also started postseason awards for mem
ber schools this year with East Webster's Doug Wilson earning Athletic Director
of the year, while Starkville was chosen the overall Staff of the Year, West Point the Class 5A staff of the year and Eupora earned the 2A staff of the year. Winston Academy was selected the MAIS Staff of the Year.
The All-star game was created for players in this portion of the state to have one last opportunity to grab attention from colleges. The rosters for the event will be selected in the coming weeks.
