Street communities across the nation submitted entries from their communities to be highlighted as a part of their ‘Love Local' blog series, and Starkville was selected just in time for the romantic holiday Valentine's Day.

The full blog post on Main Street America's website describes Starkville's downtown as “vibrant and thriving.”

“[Starkville] is home to a family-owned jewelry shop of more than 75 years, beautiful gift and floral boutiques who always go the extra mile for Valentine's Day, as well as a bridal boutique located in a historic Victorian home just steps from Main Street,” the blog post says. “Nestled in the heart of town, Lafayette Street's bright lights are the most picture-perfect proposal destination in Northeast Mississippi. It's the perfect place for a date night or romantic weekend where you can enjoy worldclass and farm to table dining experiences and a relaxing night at the Historic Hotel Chester. It's easy to fall in love in Starkville!”

Starkville Main Street Association Director Paige Watson spoke on what it says about Starkville to have a recognition such as this.

“I think it's just more recognition for all the people who work hard every day to make this place so special and what it is,” said Watson. “From our friends at the small town center, to the mayor, and obviously the city, we're all working together to create an environment that everybody loves, and obviously, they do. So that's exciting.”

For those who need to get a last-second Valentine's gift for their significant other today, Watson says there are plenty of places for you to go on Main Street.

“We have so many great stores, a lot of family-owned

businesses and have been here for a long time, and our stores are just all decorated and so cute. Every window displayed downtown right now is absolutely precious and decorated for the holiday,” said Watson. “I think what's also great about our local shops is that you can really find something for everyone. So if your special someone is a sports enthusiast, you can go to Disc and That. If they're really into art, you can check out Dunkington. As far as clothes, candy, flowers, that's all here and all available in downtown Starkville.”

The other four Main Streets are Georgetown, Texas; Kendallville, Ind.; Grayling, Mich.; and Paducah, Ky.
