Bulldog fans are glad to be back at Dudy Noble

- By CAL BROWN

After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, Starkville's favorite time of the year is finally back.

That's right, Friday marked the beginning of a new season for Mississippi State baseball, and fans flocked to Polk-dement Stadium for opening day to watch the Diamond Dawgs take on Virginia Military Institute in the first of a three-game weekend series.

One of those fans was recent MSU graduate Hasten Wren, who grew up going to Dudy Noble and watching the games with his father.

“I've grown up going to the Dude and watching the baseball games here with my dad, and it just doesn't get old,” said Wren. ““For me, there's just nothing better than going to watch some MSU baseball at the Dude with some of my buddies, especially on a weekend SEC series.”

Wren was among the maroon sea that filled TD Ameritrade Park when MSU defeated Vanderbilt in Game 3 to secure its first national championship in the 2021 season.

When asked what he believes the team can do this year, Chris sees another national title being “definitely possible,” but he knows winning two titles in three years would be a mighty big task for any team.

“You hate to set your expectations too high. It's hard enough just to get to the College World Series. But to win it all again, everything has to work out perfectly,” said Wren. “That's what happened when we won it; we just had timely hitting, the leadership, and we had an absolutely loaded bullpen too. I'm not saying this team can't do it, I'm just saying that the 2021 team was like a ‘team of destiny' when you look back.”
