Supes hold first March meeting

- By CAL BROWN

During the first regular meeting of the month for the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors, Chris Gant of Waggoner Engineering visited the board and provided them an update on the Oktibbeha County Lake Dam project.

The Mississippi Engineering Group was contracted to provide alternatives for the dam, and Gant says that work is completed, and all that is missing is providing the board a report with full analysis.

“Once we've delivered that, then that will be completed,” said Gant. “We are obviously entering into a new phase with Waggoner Engineering and NRCS (Natural Resources Conservation Service) to provide a full assessment and recommendations for construction and taking it through construction, and the Biba Wila subwatershed is right in the middle of it and it feeds into the lake.”

Gant says this next phase will be a much more extensive assessment that will take into account all of the creeks that feed into the Oktibbeha County Lake, like the Biba Wila Creek.

Bid accepted for Harris Road bridge project

Later on in the meeting, Oktibbeha County Engineer Clyde Pritchard came to the board with six bids regarding the Harris Road bridge project.

When he sat down with the board, Pritchard told the board that three of the six bids were “out-of-area,” which he says might be an indication that the bid market is getting better.

Pritchard recommended the low bid of $731,056.24 from N.L. Carson Construction based out of Carthage, who he described as a “long-standing, reputable contractor” in the area.

A motion was made by District 5 Supervisor Joe Williams and seconded by District 3 Supervisor Marvell Howard to accept the bid from N.L. Carson Construction, which was passed unanimously.

Pritchard said the project duration is around 180 days, but it will not begin until state aid reviews the board order from the board.

Williams expressed his excitement to see the proj

ect moving forward those on Harris Road.

“It's been a long time coming and we're glad to see it,” Williams said.

The Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors will meet again at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 20 in the upstairs boardroom at the Oktibbeha County Courthouse. for
