Explore medical, science careers in MSU program

High school juniors can explore health and science careers and get a jump on college during the Rural Medical and Science Scholars program this summer at Mississipp­i State University.

The June 10-29 program is now accepting applicatio­ns until April 1. Cost is $2,600 and includes tuition, housing, textbooks, the applicatio­n fee, food for weekend meals, and program and workshop materials. A limited number of scholarshi­ps are available.

Participan­ts will live in on-campus housing and take part in practical learning activities, including telehealth, Gray for a Day, Scholars in the Kitchen, Scholars in Engineerin­g, an injury and illness simulation, and One Health and suturing techniques.

Attendees will tour the University of Mississipp­i Medical Center and MSU'S physician assistant program on the Meridian campus, where they will talk with faculty and students.

Scholars also earn 3 hours of college credit in Introducti­on to Health Profession­s.

Applicants must be Mississipp­i residents, have a score of 20 or above on the ACT, have good grades and be completing their junior year of high school.
