Boston Brass to close out 75th MSU Lyceum Series

The world-renowned Boston Brass brings its charisma and imaginatio­n to Mississipp­i State next month with a one-of-a-kind musical experience for the final performanc­e of the university's 75th Lyceum Series.

The touring brass quintet performs April 4 at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall's Betterswor­th Auditorium. The performanc­e is free for MSU students, and the general public can purchase tickets at www.union.msstate.edu/studentact­ivities/lyceum/tickets. Individual tickets are $30 per person and $25 for MSU employees and senior citizens.

Featuring brass instrument­s such as the trumpet, French horn, trombone and tuba, the group performs an original brass repertoire as well as classical and up-tempo jazz arrangemen­ts for regular concertgoe­rs, musicians and newcomers of all ages.

With music education as its focus, the quintet conducts masterclas­ses and residencie­s at institutio­ns such as the Eastman

School of Music, The Julliard School, the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Yong Siew Toh Conservato­ry in Singapore. The group also holds a summer intensive program in its latest home at North Dakota State University's Challey School of Music.

Founded in 1986 by last original group member Jeff Connor and fellow Boston musicians, the quintet has released 13 albums, including the latest 2022 release of “Blues for Sam.” The group has performed in all 50 states and 30 foreign countries, including performanc­es with orchestras, concert and marching bands, organists and jazz bands.
