For the first time ever, the Fabulous $50,000 Payout Barrel Race is at the Mississippi Horse Park.
After kicking off on Friday, this two-day barrel race is one of several new multi-day events that will be taking place at the Horse Park this year. Admission is free to come watch top caliber riders compete in the Fabulous $50,000 Payout Barrel Race, which has a unique format in that riders know exactly how much will be paid out before they arrive. Racing will begin at 10 a.m. today.
Many barrel races base the payout scale on the number of contestant entries but this one guarantees $50,000 regardless. This high payout opportunity makes it worth traveling from all over to attend.
“This format attracts elite riders to come compete and spend several days in our community. We look forward to working with the promoters and welcoming many new faces to the facility this weekend,” says Horse Park Facility Director Bricklee Miller.
Promoters Wendy Reed, Andy and Blair Mcclure are from Georgia and will host a series of three shows held in Starkville, Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Unadilla, Ga.
Miller enticed them to host one of the races at the Horse Park by using funds from the Starkville CVB Tourism Grant. These funds are strategically used to bring new dollars to our community and help events get established.
“The Horse Park has a positive reputation in the barrel racing world of being a clean and safe facility with a staff that goes above and beyond to make sure your event is a success. The good service, fast ground and support through the grant made it easy to add Starkville as one of our locations,” Reed said.
The next event at the Horse Park will be the Golden Triangle Kennel Club of MS Dog Show March 18-19. This event is also free to attend and a great event for the whole family to enjoy.
