Lady Jackets reach PR’S, state marks at event
The Starkville High School girls track and field team continues to show improvement this season and achieved an 11th place finish overall at the Carey High School Challenge.
Starkville came in 11th out of 20 teams at the meet hosted by William Carey University.
In the 3,200-meter run, Emma Claire Spradling had a personal record of 13:15.42 that was also a Mississippi Top 50 mark, while Emma Wilson's time of 13:26.68 was also a Mississippi Top 50. Spradling also had a personal record run of 6:10.93 in the 1,600-meter run, while Krystin Swink had a personal record time of 6:29.65 and Francie Tagert came in with a personal mark of 6:37.50.
Bria Jones ran a time of 20.30 in the 100-meter hurdles, Maikela Mitchell had a personal record time of 20.90, Asia Price had a personal record time of 21.02 and Mariah Williams made it a personal record trifecta with a time of 21.25.
Taniya Turner achieved a Mississippi Top 50 time of 12.96 in the 100-meter dash and Jersey Hendrix had a personal record time of 13.86.
The 4x200 meter relay team of Indya Sparks, Emerald Owens, Jocelyn Randle and Turner placed fourth with a time of 1:47.03.
Mitchell had a personal record time of 54.56 in the 300-meter hurdles and Jones also had a personal mark with a time if 56.88.
In the 200-meter dash, Turner had a personal record and Mississippi Top 25 time of 26.63 and Randle's 26.71 time was also a Mississippi Top 25 ranking.
The 4X400 meter Relay team of Jariyah Lowe, Jamaica Young, Ra'una Robinson and
Randle achieved a place time of 4:30.24.
As far as the field events, Sparks had a personal record of 14-11 in the long jump, Owens accomplished a 14-6 and Zoie Williams claimed a personal record of 12-10. Jada Harris and Luxury Wordlaw fourth
tied for fifth place in the high jump with a mark of 4-5. Wordlaw had a personal record of 28-10 in the triple jump. Veronica Dunne had a Mississippi Top Five rating in the pole vault, while Lurel Hand had a Mississippi Top 10 and Katelyn Bateman also competed.
The Lady Jackets have enjoyed a first place showing at the SHS Season Opener Meet. They were also first at the Golden Triangle Showdown Meet and were fourth at the Hattiesburg High Invitational.
